當凱特和亞歷繼續透過湖畔小屋的信箱通信，他們赫然發現並確定他們活在相隔兩年的時空，而且他們都想擺脫過去令人失望的生活，希望能夠開創一個全新的人生。這對心有戚戚焉的筆友在接下來的數個星期內，透過互相通信的過程，分享了彼此的秘密、疑慮以及夢想，最後竟然發現他們已經愛上對方。
